Emergency Physician Dr. Herschel Brown Announces Candidacy for Oklahoma State House District 99

OKLAHOMA CITY — After more than 30 years working in emergency rooms, Dr. Herschel L. Brown is entering a different kind of service. He has announced his candidacy for Oklahoma State House District 99.
For decades, Brown has worked in high-volume emergency departments, where decisions are immediate and the stakes are real. He currently serves as an attending physician and associate professor at OU Health in Oklahoma City.
“In the ER, people don’t care what your title is, they just want to know if you’re going to help,” Brown said. “That’s how I’ve always approached my work, and it’s how I’d approach serving this district.”
Brown’s path began in Oklahoma City, where he attended Northwest Classen High School before earning degrees from the University of Oklahoma and completing his medical training, including a residency at Emory University.
After building his career in major medical systems, he made the decision to return to Oklahoma.
“I came back because this is home,” he said. “And I’ve always believed if you have something to offer, you don’t take it somewhere easier — you bring it back where it matters.”
He and his wife, Doris, are raising four children in Oklahoma City.
District 99, an urban Oklahoma City district, is shaped by working families, long-standing neighborhoods, and a need for practical leadership focused on real conditions on the ground.
In addition to his medical career, Brown has served in disaster response efforts and remains active in his church and local education initiatives.
His campaign will focus on neighborhood stability, economic opportunity and responsive representation.
