Indiana looks to lure Chicago Bears

Indiana lawmakers have passed legislation in an effort to lure the Chicago Bears to the Hoosier State. The measure created a professional sports development commission, which would develop a plan for attracting a professional sports franchise to northwest Indiana. The Bears bought the site of the former Arlington International Racecourse in 2023 for $197 million. The team also released plans to build a domed stadium on the Chicago lakefront, but the prospect of obtaining public funding for the project have hit a roadblock.

Prosecutors charge Campaign deputy with misusing funds

A Champaign County Sheriff’s deputy is facing a felony charge accusing him of misusing funds from a police support nonprofit he runs. The investigation surrounding 40-year-old Matthew Stuckey began in November, when State Police learned of allegations regarding the misuse of funds made to the 10-78 a charity called Back the Blue Champaign County. As a result, Stuckey is charged with theft of property between $10,000 and $100,000, and is scheduled to appear in court May 22.
