State pulls crematorium license over improper storage

A crematorium in Chicago Heights has had its license permanently revoked. Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza announced the action against Heights Crematory of Chicago Heights after complaints of unethical and unprofessional conduct. The comptroller’s office said its auditors found the crematorium was storing bodies in inoperable refrigerated trailers and coolers, and/or were stacked in improper containers.

Illinois State Police Memorial to add new name after fatal crash

Trooper Clay Carns’ name will be affixed permanently on the Illinois State Police Memorial Park wall on Friday. In December 2024, just two days before Christmas, Carns was outside his squad car removing debris from I-55 near Channohon when he was struck by a passing vehicle. He died at the hospital from his injuries. The memorial wall is in Springfield, north of the ISP headquarters.

Chicago restaurant gives up amid hiring struggles

A well-known Chicago restaurant has closed due to a personnel shortage. The Gale Street Inn operated on the city’s Northwest Side for more than 60 years. A post on the eatery’s website said, “Hiring and retaining quality staff has proven too tough for too long.”
