Pressley Confronts HUD Secretary Over Affordable Housing Crisis

WASHINGTON (AURN News) — Rep. Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts’ 7th Congressional District challenged Scott Turner, President Donald Trump’s only Black Cabinet member, during a House Financial Services Committee oversight hearing last week on the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Federal Housing Administration.

Turner, who serves as HUD secretary, failed to give a direct answer on how to address the affordable housing crisis currently facing millions of Americans during his first appearance before the committee.

Pressley directly addressed Turner during the exchange.

“Donald Trump said that the affordability crisis is a hoax,” Pressley said during the hearing.

“He is as clueless about what is happening with the American people as he is clueless,” she added. “There is an affordability crisis. We’re living it every day.”

According to the National Low Income Housing Coalition, the shortage of affordable rental homes for renters and people with low incomes now totals 7.1 million.
