Rep. Jasmine Crockett Launches Bid for U.S. Senate, Targeting Texas GOP Stronghold

(AURN News) — Rep. Jasmine Crockett is taking her fight to a bigger stage, officially launching a campaign Monday for the U.S. Senate seat long held by Republican Sen. John Cornyn.
The Dallas Democrat — known for her viral clapbacks, sharp questioning and willingness to confront GOP colleagues — is betting that her unapologetic style and Texas’ shifting electorate can turn decades of Republican dominance into a competitive race.
Crockett’s decision follows mid-decade redistricting by Texas Republicans that squeezed several blue districts in the Dallas–Fort Worth region, placing Democratic incumbents on a collision course and pushing some lawmakers toward exits or new political paths.
What once appeared to be a clear lane for Colin Allred, who early on looked like the party’s leading Senate hopeful, has now shifted. Allred is moving back toward a House run, leaving a high-profile vacancy at the top of the Democratic ticket.
That opening gives Crockett room to frame her Senate campaign as a referendum on GOP-led gerrymandering — and on who gets to shape Texas’ political future.
