Two Texas Men Charged in Alleged Plot to Seize Haitian Island

(AURN News) — Two Texas men are facing federal charges after allegedly plotting a violent takeover of an island in Haiti, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Texas.
Gavin Rivers Weisenburg, 21, of Allen, and Tanner Christopher Thomas, 20, of Argyle, are accused of planning to murder the men living on the island and enslave the women and children. Federal prosecutors say the pair has been charged with conspiracy to murder, maim or kidnap in a foreign country, as well as production of child pornography.
According to prosecutors, Weisenburg and Thomas “undertook numerous overt acts in furtherance of their invasion plan,” including creating operational and logistical plans, learning Haitian Creole, recruiting others, and researching or enrolling in programs to gain skills they believed would support their scheme.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Thomas also enlisted in the U.S. Air Force to gain military skills he thought would help carry out the plan.
Investigators say the men intended to buy a sailboat, guns and ammunition while recruiting homeless individuals in Washington, D.C., to join their alleged coup.
