ABC Brings Back Jimmy Kimmel Amid Free Speech Battle

(AURN News) — Jimmy Kimmel will return to ABC after being suspended over remarks about the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, the Associated Press reported.

The network announced the reinstatement Monday after days of criticism, affiliate pressure and an open letter signed by more than 400 Hollywood stars.

Kimmel’s suspension, prompted by backlash from Nexstar and Sinclair, came amid rising tensions between the Trump administration and the media, including lawsuits and federal pressure on broadcasters.

FCC officials denied threatening ABC’s licenses but condemned Kimmel’s remarks.

Kimmel, who has hosted “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” since 2003, remains under contract through May 2026. His return comes as Hollywood figures frame the controversy as a battle over free speech.
