Activists Say Target Boycott Hurting Nearly 2,000 Stores

Activists behind a national Target boycott say foot traffic has dropped in nearly 2,000 stores since January, proof their pressure is working, according to the Associated Press.

The boycott began after Target pulled back on diversity, equity and inclusion goals it pledged in 2020 following George Floyd’s murder.

The campaign coincides with Target’s planned leadership change: longtime CEO Brian Cornell will step down in February 2026, with current COO Michael Fiddelke set to succeed him.

Civil rights leaders, including the Rev. Al Sharpton, have urged Target to honor its earlier promises.

Organizers vow to continue the boycott until DEI commitments are restored.
