Biden makes stops in New England to promote PACT Act

(The Center Square) — Ahead of Memorial Day weekend, President Joe Biden visited New Hampshire Tuesday to discuss the Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics Act.

Biden signed the PACT Act in 2022 to expand Veterans Affairs benefits for veterans exposed to burn pits by requiring the Department of Veterans Affairs to assume a causal link between burn pits and certain conditions.

Referring to the duty to assist veterans returning from war and their families, the president said that nearly “two years ago, we took a giant step toward fulfilling that obligation when I fought for and signed the PACT Act.”

The White House announced that over one million claims had been approved since the law was passed, and 880,000 veterans are currently receiving care. “To mark a key milestone in this effort, the President [joined] veterans and their families…to discuss how the historic PACT Act has delivered lifesaving health care and benefits to more than 888,000 veterans and survivors,” according to the White House.

Following the president’s stop in Nashua, he headlined a couple campaign events in Boston—where he was met with pro-Palestinian protesters.

On Sunday, the Boston Party for Socialism and Liberation made it “clear” the president wasn’t “welcome” in their city with an angry Instagram post.

“GENOCIDE JOE IS COMING TO BOSTON…Let’s make it clear that he is NOT welcome in our city while he continues to fund the Israeli genocide of Palestinians,” the group wrote in the post. The protesters booed the president when he passed by, waving Palestinian flags.

Biden’s visit comes during a critical time in the presidential race. Some polling currently has former President Donald Trump leading Biden by four points, but others give the current president a nine-point edge. The two are just about tied in New Hampshire, but Biden has a firm lead in Massachusetts.
