Bossier City Council looking to allocate $250k for on-demand water meters

(The Center Square) — The Bossier City Council will not only decide on adjusted sanitation rates during this week’s city council meeting, but also hear the first reading of an ordinance appropriating $250,000 for water meters.

According to the ordinance sponsored and prepared by Chief Administrative Officer Amanda Nottingham, additional funds are needed for water meter replacements.

New meters and replacements are annually provided by the Customer Service Division. Since the cost and quantity needed have reportedly increased, additional funding is requested.

The funds would come from the Water Capital and Contingency Fund if approved.

Another budget-related item includes the first reading of an ordinance prepared and sponsored by City Engineer Andy Bajnauth. Materials testing costs have increased, according to the report, resulting in an additional $50,000 needed to cover costs. This increase is due to commercial and residential development in Bossier.

Other items of business include final readings on four different ordinances, including the appropriation of $280,000 to purchase a wheeled excavator for street and ditch maintenance and adjusting sanitation rates previously discussed by multi-family complex owners.
