Caddo Parish Commission to discuss new agenda items in work session

(The Center Square) — The Caddo Parish Commission meets this week for the first time in a month to discuss 13 new business items.

Of the new business on the commission agenda, there is a resolution by Commissioners John Atkins and Ed Lazarus requesting that the state allocate resources and attention to repairing and maintaining Interstate 49, I-220, I-20 and Highway 3132 in Caddo Parish.

The commission will hear Resolution 34, and if approved, issues hospital revenue bonds for the North Caddo Hospital Service District, which can not exceed $5.5 million.

These bonds will fund the purchase, construction, improvement and equipment of hospitals within the district. The resolution also authorizes a new rural health clinic. The interest rate would not exceed 7% and mature no later than 30 years from the date issued. The parish and commission would not be liable for the payment of the principal or interest on the bonds.

Five of the 13 new business items are special resolutions, of which one recognizes former Shreveport Mayor John B. Hussey.

Just this week, seven meetings are scheduled between Monday and Thursday, including the Animal Service Committee, Economic Development Committee, Caddo Commission Work Session, the swearing in of the Caddo Parish Youth Leadership Alliance, Film and Entertainment Advisory Committee, Lone Range Planning Committee and the Caddo Commission regular session.

The Economic Development Committee is planning to discuss the $10 million pickleball facility further after questions from citizens delayed the vote from the commission.

During the Long Range Planning Committee, previously discussed voting sites are back on the agenda. In July, the commission voted to discuss two new voting sites further, despite funding for both locations already being allocated. The commission moved the ordinance back to the Long Range Planning Committee to get further clarification on what’s needed to have both voting site locations approved.
