Caddo Parish juvenile numbers show significant decline

(The Center Square) – Caddo Parish juvenile detention numbers show five fewer than the previous report, as numbers continue to decrease.

Juvenile crime is trending down as Caddo Assistant Administrator Clay Walker updated the Caddo Parish Commission during Thursday’s regular session.

According to Walker, 13 juveniles are in detention, four of whom are 17-year-olds. Six have been sentenced and await the next steps with the Office of Juvenile Justice. There are 15 juveniles at the Caddo Correctional Center and 423 probation cases.

The Sept. 15 report had 18 juveniles in detention, with one being 17. There were 16 at the Caddo Correctional Center, seven with the Office of Juvenile Justice and 423 probation cases.

While probation cases remain the same, detention numbers are steadily decreasing in the parish.

An update was not given on the Caddo Correctional Center capacity, but it was still hovering around the 1,500 mark during the mid-September meeting, according to Chief Administrative Officer Erica Bryant.

When comparing these statistics to the beginning of the year, detention numbers sat at 20 on Jan. 21, with 460 probation cases. This dropped to 17 in detention and 458 probation cases by February.

At the start of the year on Jan. 6, there were 13 in detention and 472 probation cases.

Bryant or Walker give the updated report on a biweekly or monthly basis to the Caddo Parish Commission.
