WASHINGTON (AURN News) — President Donald Trump declared Sunday that the war with Iran was over, writing on Truth Social that “the Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete.”
Here’s what we do know: After more than three months of conflict that began Feb. 28 with coordinated U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran, a peace framework has been announced, with a formal signing ceremony set for Friday in Switzerland.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who served as a key mediator, confirmed both sides had agreed to an immediate and permanent end to military operations, including in Lebanon.
The Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly 20% of the world’s oil passes, is set to reopen for mine removal once the deal is signed, a move that could bring gas prices down in the coming weeks.
U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres called it a “critical step.”
Although Trump called the deal complete, officials on both sides said critical issues remain unresolved, with 60 days of additional negotiations still ahead.
Topping the list of unresolved issues is Iran’s nuclear program, the very issue that triggered the war in the first place.
