Illinois Quick Hits: Archdiocese says CPS cuts off funds for disabled students

(The Center Square) – The Archdiocese of Chicago says Chicago Public Schools are abruptly ending federally-funded services for more than 800 Catholic school students Friday.

In a statement released Thursday night, the archdiocese said it is understood that federal funding for these services was provided to CPS for the full school year, and CPS’ choice to end services early means students with learning differences will lose academic support.

GOVERNORS URGE GRID OPERATOR ACTION ON DATA CENTERS

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, Indiana Gov. Mike Braun and five other governors are calling on grid operator PJM Interconnection to ensure that data centers do not drive up energy costs.

In a letter to PJM, the governors said they would prefer that PJM directly assign costs to new data centers.

The bipartisan coalition also asked for consumer protection from stranded costs and inflated capacity market prices.

LAWMAKERS ADVANCE BILL TO BAN HIDDEN FEES

The Illinois House has passed legislation supporters say will make pricing more transparent and curb hidden junk fees.

House Bill 228 provides that it is unlawful for entities to advertise or offer a price for goods a price for goods and services without including all mandatory fees or surcharges.
