Illinois quick hits: Faculty stands with protesters; Dolton residents press mayor over FBI raid

Faculty stands with protesters

Dozens of Illinois State University faculty members said in a letter they stand in solidarity with student protesters, including seven who were suspended for staging a sit-in outside the president’s office after the administration building closed.

The seven students protesting Israel’s war in Gaza face misdemeanor charges and suspensions that would ban them from campus during finals week.

Elsewhere, campus police cleared out a student encampment Tuesday morning at the University of Chicago.

A chaotic meeting unfolded at Village Hall in Dolton Monday night as residents lined up to voice concerns about an FBI raid.

The FBI served subpoenas at the Village of Dolton and Thornton Township where Mayor Tiffany Henyard is also a supervisor.

Henyard lashed out at former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, who had been hired by trustees to lead an investigation into the mayor. Henyard vetoed that appointment during the meeting. Henyard is accused of using taxpayer dollars to bankroll lavish trips in the past year.

Man charged in park attack

Two people were hospitalized after what police are describing as an unprovoked attack at a park in McHenry.

Police said Raymond Link was walking his dog without a leash when he attacked a 59-year-old woman. The woman suffered serious injuries and multiple dog bites. A man who tried to intervene was also injured.
