Poll: Vast majority of Americans say Trump will control illegal immigration

The vast majority of Americans, even some Democrats, say they believe President-elect Donald Trump can fix the immigration crisis, new polling shows.

Gallup released the polling data which showed that 68% of Americans say Trump will “control illegal immigration,” thus following through on a top campaign promise.

The southern border has fallen into chaos as over 12 million illegal immigrants have entered the U.S. since President Joe Biden took office.

Even a third of Democrats, who are generally skeptical of Trump on other issues, admitted they believe Trump will tackle the immigration issue.

Trump has more faith from Americans on this issue than last time he was elected, with 9% more of Americans saying Trump will control illegal immigration than when Americans were asked the same question in November of 2016.

Trump has kept illegal immigration in focus as a top issue, tapping Tom Homan to serve as border czar. Homan has publicly said Trump has tasked him with securing the border, locating hundreds of thousands of lost migrant children, and carrying out the largest deportation program in U.S. history.

In the poll, Trump fared more poorly on other issues, with only 33% saying Trump will heal the political divisions in the U.S. and 40% saying he will improve health care in the nation, respective drops of 6 points and 12 points since November of 2016.

However, Trump saw improved confidence from Americans on other issues as well.

Notably, 55% of Americans say Trump will keep the U.S. out of war, up 17% from the same survey results just after Trump’s first election in 2016.

More Americans expect Trump to reduce the crime rate and improve race relations, 51% and 41% respectively.
