Senate Blocks War Powers Resolution on Trump’s Iran Conflict

(AURN News) — The Senate officially blocked a war powers resolution that sought to limit President Donald Trump’s authority over the ongoing conflict with Iran.

The 47-43 vote fell largely along party lines, effectively giving the White House a green light to continue what it calls Operation Epic Fury.

Democrats argued that the escalating strikes across Iran require a formal declaration from Congress, but the Republican majority held firm.

Republicans contend that tying the commander-in-chief’s hands during a live military campaign would be a gift to Tehran.

The vote was not without its defectors across party lines. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., crossed the aisle to vote yes on the restrictions, while Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., broke ranks to support the president’s military stance.

The House is set to vote today, as the political divide over the conflict continues.

The White House says the strikes in Iran are necessary for regional stability, but critics fear the U.S. could be drifting into another prolonged conflict.
