(AURN News) – Black Americans took some of the hardest hits during the Trump comeback year, from student loans and food benefits to control of troops in Black cities.
In 2025, President Donald Trump ended the Biden-era SAVE student loan repayment plan, forcing about 7 million borrowers into more expensive repayment options as prices climbed. Experts say the move will deepen the racial wealth gap for Black borrowers and graduates of historically Black colleges and universities.
At the same time, the administration rolled back diversity, equity and inclusion efforts across federal agencies and higher education, dismantling offices focused on discrimination, environmental justice and workplace equity for Black workers. A massive bill delivered trillions in tax cuts while carving deeply into Medicaid, Medicare and SNAP.
Trump also moved against Black immigrants, targeting protections for Haitians and expanding travel limits that have shaken immigrant households in cities from Miami to New York.
