Haley to suspend campaign, setting stage for Trump-Biden rematch

(The Center Square) – Nikki Haley plans to end her presidential campaign Wednesday, according to multiple media outlets, setting up a rematch between Republican former President Donald Trump and Democratic President Joe Biden in November.

The media outlets, citing unnamed sources, said Haley will formally exit the Republican presidential primary during a Wednesday morning address. The outlets reported that Haley will not yet endorse Trump for the general election.

Trump trounced Haley in most Super Tuesday states, winning by large numbers in 14 of the 15 states at stake. Haley’s only win Tuesday was in Vermont. Her poor performance led to increased calls for her to suspend her campaign.

“It’s a BAD day to be Nikki Haley!” U.S. Rep. Ronny Jackson, R-Texas, wrote on X. “She’s about to get blown out of the water this Super Tuesday in an embarrassing loss. You can’t feel bad though, she did it to herself! Nikki, it’s time to drop out and ENDORSE TRUMP!”

On Super Tuesday, Trump added Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Virginia to the win column.

Prior to Super Tuesday, Trump also won primaries and/or caucuses in Idaho, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, Nevada, South Carolina and South Dakota.

Outside of Vermont, Haley’s only other win was Sunday in Washington D.C.

Biden also dominated Super Tuesday’s primaries, setting up a rematch of the bitter 2020 contest he won over Trump, who challenged the results.
