(The Center Square) — While some specific offenses are higher, overall crime in Bossier Parish is declining. Year-to-date records show lower crime rates committed compared to this time last year.
Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office reports show 2025 is still ticking down compared to this time last year. The parish did see an increase in rape, but other offenses, including robbery, simple assault, burglary, and theft, show significant decreases.
The crime report showed total offenses in February last year were 86, with the year-to-date being 149. In 2025, February had 61 offenses, with 123 year-to-date. This totaled a 17% decline in overall crime. January 2024 and 2025 saw an even greater drop. In January last year, there were 98. This January, the total dropped to 69, showing a 30% decrease in the parish.
As of February, there have been no reported homicides, which is the same as this time last year. However, rape cases have increased by nearly 100%, with 10 reported cases, three of those just from February. Records indicate that 2022 was a high year for rape crimes sitting at 53 reported cases, but from 2023 to 2025 stats, this is dropping slowly.
There was a 22% increase in rape from 2023 to 2024, from 37 to 45. Due to the rise in rape this year, overall violent crime is up by 4% compared to last year. However, property crime showed a 44% decrease.
Robbery has dropped with no reported cases this year, and simple assault dropped from 60 to 49 compared to this time last year. General theft cases are still a bit high but show an overall decline.
This time last year, there were 46 reported cases of general theft, and only 27 this year. Aggravated assault cases have drastically increased by nearly 109% since this time last year. In 2024, there were 11 cases year-to-date, and this year the department has seen 23 cases so far — 14 just in February.
These overall numbers reflect Bossier Parish crime, not crime within the city limits of Benton, Bossier City, Haughton or Plain Dealing.
