City Council adjusts budget ahead of final passage

(The Center Square) − The Bossier City Council introduced an ordinance Tuesday to adopt the city’s general fund budget for 2026, holding a first reading and brief discussion of adjustments made since the recent budget workshop.

City finance officials, including Chief Administrative Officer Amanda Nottingham, outlined several revisions that fine-tuned expenditures and realigned funding sources without significantly altering staffing levels or major service priorities.

Nottingham said the general fund had a decrease in expenditures of $18,845 following restructuring within the Public Works Department. The city created an assistant director position by combining two full-time and two part-time roles but ultimately retained one part-time position that was originally slated for removal.

She also noted that fire station remodels were shifted from the sales tax capital fund to Fund 240, the Fire Improvements and Operations account. The projects remain fully funded.

The Water Department budget increased by about $72,000 to cover a new full-time water treatment plant operator position, with a salary of $45,896 plus benefits.

In the sales tax capital fund, several items were removed or adjusted. Included was a $1.5 million fire truck which was removed because it was purchased ahead of schedule and $600,000 for eight police vehicles.

A $3 million transfer was added from sales tax capital to the Parkway Capital Projects fund, boosting funding for infrastructure improvements.

Bossier City will maintain 709 full-time positions for 2026. A late addition to the general fund included $10,350 to fund a 2% raise for part-time employees and a $1,000 increase for the uniform budget.
