(The Center Square) – Upgrades to the Shreveport Regional Airport entryway are planned using a recently awarded Keep Louisiana Beautiful Beautification Grant.
“This $10,000 grant award represents an active partnership with Keep Louisiana Beautiful and the Department of Culture, Recreation, and Tourism that will help us uphold our responsibility to enhance environmental stewardship and encourage economic development while highlighting the community,” said Mayor Tom Arceneaux.
The Department of Public Works began visual upgrades to the airport entryway previously. The beautification grant will be used to further these efforts by adding native, perennial plants.
According to Keep Louisiana Beautiful Executive Director Susan Russell, the grant not only furthers local projects but also brings behavioral changes as well.
“People are less likely to litter in areas that display community pride and that are well-maintained and beautiful, so reducing litter in highly visible areas is an additional key driver of this grant,” she said. Keep Louisiana Beautiful “seeks projects that have diverse community support, volunteer involvement, collaboration with stakeholders and benefit the community at large.”
Eleven grants were awarded to organizations, parishes and municipalities across Louisiana totaling $72,000.
