State police ‘monitoring’ Iran conflict, coordinating with agencies

(The Center Square) – Louisiana State Police say they are monitoring developments in the U.S.-Iran conflict for any potential effects on public safety, while coordinating with local, state and federal partners to maintain situational awareness. In comments provided Tuesday, LSP spokesman Ross Brennan said the agency is working with the Louisiana State Analytical and Fusion Exchange, or LA-SAFE, the state’s fusion center, to analyze and share threat-related information and monitor for any activity that could affect the state.“As with any major incident that causes potential concern, LSP will continue to monitor developments that could affect public safety here in Louisiana,” Brennan said.Brennan also said state police will continue coordinating with the Louisiana National Guard, whose deployment in New Orleans and other parts of the state was recently extended, to maintain what he described as a “coordinated and visible presence.”The comments come as state leaders said about 1,000 Louisiana National Guard soldiers and airmen are currently deployed abroad, with some potentially serving near the conflict zone. Maj. Gen. Michael Greer told the House Appropriations Committee on Monday that some Guard members are serving “within missile range of Iran,” though officials said there are no plans for a broader mobilization of Louisiana troops tied to the conflict.LSP urged residents and visitors to remain alert and report suspicious activity. Tips can be submitted through LSP’s website, the “See Something, Send Something” app, or directly to LA-SAFE by phone or email, Brennan said.
