(The Center Square) – Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick broke fundraising records in 2024, according to statements issued by their campaigns.
Abbott raised a combined total of more than $50 million in 2024, with more than $45 million for Texans for Greg Abbott and over $6 million for the Greg Abbott Campaign, which contributes to candidates and officeholder campaigns.
By Dec. 31, 2024, Texans for Greg Abbott reported nearly $70 million in cash on hand, the most of any state officeholder in Texas history.
“The strong support our campaign received is a clear indication of the trust Texans have in Governor Abbott and his steadfast, conservative leadership,” Abbott campaign manager Kim Snyder said. “Raising over $50 million from every corner of the state showcases the strength of the Governor’s vision for Texas. With nearly $70 million cash on hand, we are fully equipped to continue delivering on Governor Abbott’s mission to keep Texas a beacon of freedom and opportunity for generations.”
During the most recent reporting period, Abbott raised more than $21.5 million from more than 33,690 individuals, with the majority of funds, 84%, coming from Texans. More than 94,600 contributions were made to support Abbott from all 50 states.
Abbott also raised an additional $2 million for the Greg Abbott Campaign during the same period.
Under Abbott’s leadership, Texas has consistently ranked the best state for business, economic development, and topped nearly all other rankings, The Center Square reported.
Every month last year, Texas ranked first for job creation, breaking its own records, The Center Square reported.
Last year, Abbott was listed as one of the most influential leaders in the world by TIME Magazine, The Center Square reported.
“During his nine years as the governor of Texas, he has proved adept at simultaneously throwing red meat to his conservative base while tempering pushback from the state’s liberal enclaves,” TIME states of Abbott. “All the while, he has masterfully needled Washington, through both unending legal challenges and agitating stunts, such as sending buses of migrants to Democratic cities. …
“Abbott remains one of his party’s most persuasive pitchmen, especially on immigration, where he’s constantly pushing at the boundaries of what states can do on enforcement,” referring to Abbott’s border security mission, Operation Lone Star.
Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who leads the Texas Senate, closed the year with a record $33.5 million cash-on-hand in his re-election campaign account. Although not a state senator, the lieutenant. governor is an elected position. Patrick, a radio broadcaster originally from Maryland, is running for reelection in 2026.
“Representing the people of Texas and serving as President of the Senate are responsibilities I take very seriously,” Patrick said. “I will do everything in my power to deliver to the people of Texas the conservative government they want and deserve.”
Abbott’s approval rating has hovered above 50% for most of his governorship. In 2020, it reached 56%; in October 2024, it was over 51%, according to the Texas Politics Project at the University of Texas. Patrick’s approval rating is 39%, according to the same poll.
Both Abbott and Patrick have prioritized school choice and property tax reform in the next legislative session which begins Jan. 14.
