(The Center Square) – Spokane County announced a volley of funding on Friday morning that had been secured from the state for several key priorities and infrastructure projects. The announcement comes right before the official start this weekend of the City of Spokane’s 50th anniversary celebration of its hosting the World’s Fair in 1974.
STATE FUNDING SECURED FOR REGIONAL PRIORITIES
“Spokane County appreciates the State Legislature and the Governor’s partnership in supporting several regional priorities that will help us achieve shared goals, from supporting wildfire survivors to important community infrastructure projects,” said Mary Kuney, Chair of the Board of County Commissioners, in a news release. “These significant investments will help Spokane County deliver on key projects that move us forward and continue providing the vital services that our residents count on.”
According to the news release, the funding includes:
$975,000 for Gray and Oregon Road Fire Recovery Efforts$300,000 for Engineering and Surveying of Fire Recovery$773,000 for Spokane County Energy Efficiency Upgrades to help comply with the Clean Buildings Act$515,000 to assist partners at the Spokane Airports with the Transload Facility Sewer project$1 million to assist the Broadway Senior Housing project$300,000 to assist partners at the Spokane County Conservation District for the Spokane Scale House Market and Kitchen project$3.05 million in Clean Building Performance Grants for the Spokane Public Facilities District$1.7 million in fire recovery grant funding to assist wildfire survivors in rebuilding comply with State Building Code Standards $200,000 for planning on the Medical Lake/Four Lakes Road/West 3rd Ave. intersection
SPOKANE GEARS UP FOR EXPO ’74 50TH CELEBRATION
The announcement coincides with Spokane’s Expo ’74 50th Celebration, including the county’s announced plan to light up the county courthouse with the historic Expo ‘74 colors of blue, green and white.
The nine-week-long event officially kicks off on Saturday, but events have been underway since earlier this week. As a key sponsor of the anniversary, Spokane County contributed $500,000 toward the celebration.
Signature events include the opening celebration on Saturday, an ongoing speakeasy bar, light shows, vendor fairs and more. Spokane Transit Authority will also offer no-charge bus and paratransit services each weekend throughout the anniversary.
