Medical Notes: Why You Should Date Someone Who’s Nice, The Biological Cause Of Infertility, And Why Spring Goals Are More Successful

It may be time to re-start your New Years resolution.

If you’ve been ignoring the promises you made on January first, science has some good news for you. Research on Positive Psychology shows that spring is the best time for setting new goals. Instead of trying to push through the winter and post-holiday slump, postponing your resolutions for a few months is more likely to produce more success. (Washington University in St. Louis)

The biological factor that’s making you infertile.

A new study has found that a naturally-occurring antibody can stop sperm in its tracks. It disrupts how sperm attaches to an egg, and may also block fertilization. The research, published in The Proceedings Of The National Academy Of Sciences, offers a new path for investigating infertility issues. (Yale)

Do opposites attract?

Scientists say that it may not matter as much as we think. In fact, the research reveals that the key to a happy relationship is finding someone who’s nice. This trait even trumps how well a couple’s personalities lines up. Researchers noticed that having similar personalities didn’t really affect how satisfied people felt in their relationships. The findings are published in the journal of Research In Personality. (Michigan State University)
